Registered...and overwhelmed

Matt and I went to register on Saturday. I'm not sure that it accomplished much other than stressing me out. First of all, Babies R Us is a mad house on Saturdays. The sales associate made us listen to a half hour lecture on how to register (and by the way, lady, when someone checks the box "yes, I'm adopting" then they probably don't need to hear about your breast pump rental policies.) But the most stressful part is trying, as first time parents, to figure out what our 8 month old child will need. And talking to other parents of 8 months old doesn't help all that much because their children are not underweight and did not spend their first 8 months in an orphanage. And as if that wasn't enough- staring at all the shampoos and lotions only made me acutely aware that I need to figure out how to do his hair. I'm VERY thankful for Margo who gave me advice on "must-haves" for the trip to Ethiopia, and Suzi who gave me tips on good hair and skincare products.

On a completely different note, while registering we met a gentleman who is expecting twins through a serogate. That is a very interesting process. I hadn't thought about it before, but he was explaining how the children will be his legally from birth. But his wife will have to adopt the children because they used an egg donor. Interesting.

We are so excited for you guys. I know registering is super overwhelming, but go with your instincts. Everyone is different. I hope you enjoy this process of preparing for his arrival. Just save all of your receipts. Apparently Babies R Us just changed their policy and you have to have your receipt to make a return or you don't get hardly anything, so ask for gift receipts. Love you guys!

I'm sure the other parents of 8 mo. old are just trying to offer you good suggestions to start you off. I remember registering at Babies R Us and it was a lot of fun! I loved taking that little 'scan gun' and walking around the whole store scanning this, that, and everything in between. But yes, it's true that the store got stricter on their return policy. You can't even do an exchange w/o a receipt!

Hi Nikki & Matt,

I am so excited for you both. Praise God. I will continue to pray for you both during this process. I can't wait to see the pictures when you bring the baby home.
