Stuck in D.C.

Well, we left Seattle on Friday, December 26th for D.C. It was quite an experience from the get-go. When we woke up on Friday, our tickets had still not arrived via FedEx. We had called the airline, and they assured us that because of the way the tickets were booked we would NOT be getting on the plane without tickets. So, Matthew woke up bright and early to drive to FedEx and hunt down our tickets. He got home at 9:45am with our tickets- our ride showed up at 10am to take us to the airport! Whew! Unfortunately, we arrived in Seattle and were immediately warned that the flight was delayed 20 minutes...we only had a one hour layover in D.C. Well, 20 minutes turned into 3 hours. We knew before we ever left Seattle that we would miss our flight to London. So we arrived in D.C. last night, and don't have another flight until 10pm tonight. We are scheduled to arrive in Ethiopia Monday morning, a full 24 hours later than planned. We spoke with our Program Director this morning (actually we've talked to her everyday this week!) and she assured us that we would not be missing anything that would get in the way of us heading back on time.

There are so many other details that have gone astray...Matthew and I weren't sure whether to laugh or cry, so laughing seemed like the best option. Matthew has proven to be very entertaining during the wait. He even played a little game of hide-and-seek earlier, but I'm not sure who he thought he was playing with :) And in case you think I'm kidding, I've got pictures I'll post later to prove it.

We'll keep y'all updated.

THANK YOU for posting the update. I've been wondering what was going on all day. Also happy to hear you'll make it home on time. If you have time to answer... how long will you have to lay over in London? Happy to hear you guys can still laugh after all you've been through. We're praying for your trip to go as planned from now on. We'll see ALL of you soon. Love, Mom

Y'all are going to have some stories to tell Eli when he gets older. It will all be worth it.
Hopefully the rest of your trip will go smoothly. We love you and can't wait to see the 3 of you next month.
Love,
Mom
